This title dropped a little over a month ago, but considering the post-holiday release drought and the excellence of the game, I have no hesitation in presenting it now. That's where an old-school Japanese role-playing game like Chrono Trigger DS comes in. Puzzle games, especially the comfortably numbing colour-matching play of the Bejeweled class of casuals, deliver the requisite self-hypnotic click-trance but their inherent pointlessness robs them of staying power. Action games are fun and distracting, but over the course of eight or more hours on a motor coach you'll burn out. It's important to note that video game anesthesiology requires careful attention to proper dosages. Long bus rides and portable games go together like root canals and Novocaine, and right now there's nothing better on the portable market – or in any market, for that matter – than Chrono Trigger DS.
